It can withstand all the elements that New Zealand’s weather throws at it, and when you give it the proper care, you can expect it to last for many years.

Care for wooden outdoor furniture is simple and safe

To clean and restore discoloured, dark grey teak and hardwood, we recommend Golden Care Teak Cleaner. This water-based formula is a high-concentration cleaner with brightener ingredients, so it cleans while bringing back the original colour of new teak or hardwood.
Unlike most other cleaners that require a 2-step process — a separate clean and brighten — you can do it all in one, in half the time.
After Golden Care Teak Cleaner has been used, a Teak Protector then brings the colour back. We recommend Golden Care, and we stock the full range.
Golden Care Teak Protector makes life easier because it preserves teak furniture, is easy to apply, and lasts much longer than ordinary teak sealers or teak oils. It will last an entire season without needing to be reapplied. Nearly all teak treated with normal teak oil turns grey in 4 to 8 weeks. After that, the teak needs to be cleaned and oil reapplied. Three or four treatments may be needed to maintain the teak for an entire season, which can be a lot of work.
Surface coatings, such as varnish, do not last forever. Water eventually penetrates the coating, causing cracking and/or peeling. Coatings must be sanded to remove them, which makes maintenance burdensome. Also, teak garden furniture with shiny coatings on the teak doesn’t look natural. Since Golden Care Teak Protector penetrates into the pores of the teak, it becomes almost invisible: treated and protected teak looks as good as new natural teak.

Leave your furniture outside for 4 to 8 weeks so that it becomes a slightly paler colour, then apply Golden Care Teak Shield according to the directions on the packaging.
Teak Shield does not turn the light brown teak into silver-grey teak immediately. The Teak Shield slows down the colour change process. When teak turns silver-grey because of UV sunlight, it then remains silver-grey for a very long time. Teak Shield helps prevent teak furniture from turning from silver-grey to dark grey/green which can be a sign of fungus buildup.
Teak Shield does not contain pigments, so the product is transparent. The resin particles of Teak Shield adhere to wood molecules, rejecting moisture and dirt, so no mildew growth will occur. This results in a beautiful silver-grey patina.
